News Release [July 2010]
Award-winning local Skegness artist is announced for SO Festival 2010
Award winning photographer and local councilor John Byford is set to bring some artistic sparkle to the SO Festival 2010 line up, with a glittering, photographic portrayal of Skegness’ unique and lively character.
John plans to delight SO Festival 2010 visitors with his latest photography project- a six-sided, hexagon, ‘Peep Box’. Designed to replicate the shape and look of the Skegness bandstand, the exhibit is suitable for all ages and will be displayed inside the bandstand itself.
All 42 vibrant images, captured from around the district within the last two years will be illuminated at night, to entice people to take a peek at what’s inside, explore John’s vision of Skegness and share in his passion for photography.
“People need art and should have the opportunity to experience and embrace it, which is why events such as SO Festival are really important” John said. “Being able to take part in SO Festival 2010 is a fantastic opportunity for me to bring my artwork to the streets of Skegness this summer and give visitors to the festival something to think about.”
John has worked in professional photography since leaving school and has recently received a visual arts award in recognition of his continued arts service to the community. John however still feels his greatest award to date is the satisfaction he receives from showcasing his work and having the opportunity to share his talent and passion for photography.
‘Peep Box’ will add to the diverse line-up for SO Festival 2010, which promises to offer something for everyone! Music from Jools Holland, Lee Mead and BBC Lincolnshire Introducing will be complemented by a programme of dance and street theatre, alongside a wide variety of art installations from a selection of award winning international and local artists.
Organised by East Lindsey District Council, with £250,000 support from Arts Council England, SO Festival 2010 will to build on the successes of last year’s event by delivering four days of exhilarating events.
Magnetic Events has been appointed by East Lindsey District Council to deliver SO Festival 2010. Festival Director, Robin Morley, said: “We are delighted that John and so many other well-known artists and performers are coming to Skegness later this month. John’s installation is lively, vibrant and offers an exciting insight into Skegness.”
John’s project will be on display for all visitors throughout the SO Festival 2010 and is free to view.
