East to West – Bringing the Coast to the City
East to West was a travelling exhibition by Skegness artist and photographer John Byford, created to bridge the distance between the East Coast and the heart of the West Midlands.
Starting on the shores of Skegness and finishing in the centre of Birmingham, the exhibition brought the beauty, humour and character of the Lincolnshire coast directly to an urban audience. Hosted by Birmingham City Council, the display featured over 30 large-scale images celebrating everything from big skies and windswept dunes to the unique charm of the seaside.
The aim was simple: to inspire people from Birmingham to discover (or rediscover) Skegness for themselves. And it worked. The exhibition drew strong footfall, attracted widespread attention, and was warmly received by visitors who were surprised by the depth, colour and spirit of the coast.
East to West proved that sometimes the best way to encourage people to explore a place is to bring that place to them.
